Now that BlackBerry 10 is available (in some countries, at least), I have just made the Emergency Alert application available on the platform.
The app is a more basic version of the old BlackBerry Java app – this one simply alerts you based on e-mail subject (containing/starting with) or from SMTP address.
The best thing about the app is that you can be alerted to urgent events, even if your BB10 device is set to silent, or bedside mode.
More features will be added in the future to bring it up to the standard of the old Java version.

Oh, and if you’ve already purchased the Java version, you get the BlackBerry 10 upgrade for free – how cool is that?
An SMS based version is also available for Android.
It would be really great if I could select my own alert (I.E. a song to play at max volume) as my alert. Can this be available in the next update please? Thank you, -Rob.
Hi Robert,
I plan to add custom sounds in a future update.
Would you be able to add filtering based on the sent to address? We use the Level 1 alerts for our oncal and get alerts from many different systems and our old Level 1 policy filter on the sent to address, since that is the only constant between all the alerts. I have had to switch back to my old BB Torch when oncall so that I can get my oncall alerts properly.
Hi Sean,
Yes you can have alert filters set up based on the ‘To’ SMTP address.
Thanks!
Is there a future upgrade in the works that doesn’t require that the app be manually left running in the background, meaning that it would be always running and not reliant on leaving it open/running
Hello Jonathan – Yes, I am currently working on a substantial upgrade which will also have full background support, even if you close the active frame.
